O-Week

aka Orientation Week at Ryerson.

I had a fun time attending some of the events at our Orientation last week. They blocked off the streets to have DJ's, breakdance performances, sumo suit wrestling, human chess, tons of food and drinks like Vitamin water! There were movies in the Quad (our grassy area in the middle of campus) and lot's of games, fiesta lunches and scavenger hunts.

So that was the Guinness World Record for largest sword fight. We all had to leave the Quad and then walk through those turn table things so we could be counted. We had to have 480 people to beat the record, and we made it! MTV and Much Music and random news people and photographers were there. Check out this link someone sent me, I'm at the end. I picked the worst day to wear a hat and no makeup. I look like a man, but here it is: http://news.therecord.com/videogallery/405714

So this was my group at the Fiesta Lunch. Sam, Claudia and I went at lunch time so we got thrown in like a random engineering group. We felt kind of awkward being the only white people... am I in Edgemont again?

Anyway, so orientation week was cool. This week still has tons of events. My school is cool in the way that is so accepting of everyone... we have SO many groups people can join. There is a Muslim group, Campus for Christ which invites all religions to become closer to God, different Asian groups, Gay Pride groups, Urban Hip Hop Union, Cheerleading, Leadership, Community Service and Volunteer groups, a Real Estate group and lot's more. There have just been tons of events going on... but yeah all in all it's been fun! This Friday everyone skips classes (I don't have class!) to parade down to the Toronto Islands where there is a big festival and Supreme Soul from America's Best Dance Crew will be there and a surprise singer or something. AND I got some tickets to the Toronto International Film Festival! I'm SO pumped. I'm going to a screening of Passchendaele which was shot in Calgary and I know 2 people in it! Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Rachel McAdams, Dakota Fanning, Kiera Knightly, P. Diddy and lot's more celebs are on the hit list to be here! So expect some celeb stocker blogging in the next couple of weeks!!

So apparantly I live in Toronto...

I guess I have been living here almost 2 weeks. How crazy is that? Anyway, here are some much awaited pictures. Sadly, I have yet to use my 40d, and don't really have much for photo editing on this laptop, but I figure any pictures are better than no pictures at all! In fact a bunch of these are from my iPhone so I apologize for the quality!

This is of course me being a goof. Lately my flash on my point and shoot has been acting weird, and not working.... so I tend to practice lot's with my self portraits!

This was my Mom and I at dinner one night while she was here with me in Toronto. I'm so lucky to have had BOTH my parents bring me and help me get settled in!

So I pretty much live 2 minutes away from here. And my campus is RIGHT behind this. Just to name a few stores inside this mall - Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Lululemon, Apple, Sephora, Mexx, Zara, Gap, Forever 21, H&M (4 floors), Banana Republic, Old Navy, Urban Outfitters...oh yeah and about 25 Starbucks! (Drink suggestion: Grande blended lemonade with 4 pumps of melon) But yeah, this mall pretty much has it covered.

So I thought this was pretty rad. It's a cart escalator. So you put your cart in it and then you go up in the escalator beside it and then you meet your cart at the top! How cool is that?

So that's most of my place. I have a bunch more picture frames on my wall by my kitchen table and then I also have a desk with my computer and stuff, then a bathroom, big shower and a closet and hallway... but I haven't taken pictures of all that yet. Here's a good start though! Anyway, I have to go buy some teriyaki sauce because I want to make a stirfry tonight, so I'll blog again later! Miss you all!

I just wanted to once again thank my girls for everything. They really are my world and I would not be the person I am today without them. It's funny because 5 years ago if you asked me to imagine where I'd be right now and who my best friends would be... I don't know if these girls would have been my answer! I know that sounds terrible... but everything just fell into place and I'm SO happy that it turned out this way. I really think these three girls know me better than I know myself, and always seem to know what's best for me. I know that we are all apart right now, except the lucky Alana and Kaiti... but the best part is that I know the next time I see them, it will feel like nothing has changed between us. And that is what really gets me through the day. I remember a quote I heard once and it went something like this:

"True friends are the ones who never leave your heart, even if they leave your life for awhile. Even after years apart, you pick up with them right where you left off."

So perfect. I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm so proud of everything Kandice, Alana and Kaiti stand for and the amazing examples they are to me. I strive each and every day to be more like them, and just be a better person. I know these girls are all going to do great things in their lives, and I hope one day I will be able to make them proud. I'm just so lucky to have these girls as my best friends. I hope you girls have an amazing semester, and know that I think about you every day.... then again, how could I not when our pictures are plastered all over my wall!

All the best. kho. i know we'll make it through.
